One of the coolest things about being part of the Keller Williams Realty family is the growing emphasis on wellness. We have an international Wellness Day. We just hosted our first community 5K, Red Rally. Our Wellness Ambassador program is led by our corporate wellness manager who will rock your world – and your abs – Alex Garland. MAPS Coaching has a health and wellness program led by Nina Rowan Heller of Austin’s Rowan Health Concepts. Nina will make you so mentally tough you that will forget that you love queso – most of the time!
When do I fall off the wellness wagon? Primarily when I travel. As thousands of Keller Williams leaders and agents travel to Mega Camp this week, I want to share how to live and eat well in Austin. What better way to do this than to ask the experts, Alex and Nina!
Both agree that exploring the Whole Foods Market flagship store is an essential part of being well in Austin. Plus, we like to support other Austin based companies with values similar to Keller Williams’. This store is more than a grocery store, it is a shopping and dining experience. Nina elaborated, “Whole Foods has the best seafood bar! Their amazing scallops are inexpensive and they prepare the entree with amazing veggies and no starches, if that is what you want.” It just so happens that when Zhann Jochinke, the CEO of Keller Williams Dubai, got to town on Friday, Whole Foods was his first stop. He recommends loading up on their fresh fruit to avoid “disagreements with your pants.”
Nina also recommends Kerbey Lane Cafe‘s 24-hour breakfast with numerous healthy choices including egg white and vegan substitutions and Casa de Luz for their macrobiotic daily offerings of soup and salad entrees. Casa de Luz offers a unique dining experience and you can bring your own bottle of wine. Let me insert my own commentary here, Kerbey Lane will also be a great spot for friends who might not want to be as well as you!
Alex, and most of the corporate team, wholeheartedly endorse Taco Deli. This local hot spot uses locally sourced organic ingredients. The food is delicious and the salsa varieties are fun! You must tweet me @hollypriestner if you can handle the salsa habanero!
Alex and Nina agree, everything you need to be active is just minutes from your hotel. Take a walk around Lady Bird Lake‘s hike and bike trail or explore its new boardwalk. Stand-up paddle, rent a canoe or kayak, and just take in this tranquil area in the heart of downtown Austin. Help Keller Williams paint Austin red by renting a cute red bike at Austin B Cycle. Enjoy a dip in Barton Springs Pool which stays at a constant 68 degrees year round. My favorite thing to do early in the morning is walk the trail at Lady Bird Lake followed by a smoothie from JuiceLand or Skinny Limits. (I need motivation, a prize at the end.)
As Alex and I finished our conversation, her eyes lit up as she mentioned one of her favorite activities at a legendary Austin location – country dancing at the Broken Spoke. Brilliant idea for cardio! You will use muscles you forgot you have. Just stay away from the chicken fried steak!
Drop by the Wellness Booth at Mega Camp to learn more about Keller Williams’ wellness initiatives. Also, join Alex and Nina at Mega Camp for a little bit of fitness before a long day of learning.
